Social media helps the fight against cancer

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a few days ago Everywhere’s #Beatcancer Campaign set a new Guiness World Record for the distribution of the largest mass message through social media.
In the space of 24 hours (between16 – 17th October) they recorded 209,771 social media messages (tweets, facebook updates and blog posts) that included the word #beatcancer. As Mashable reports, with sponsors donating money to various cancer charities for every #beatcancer post, the campaign also managed to raise $70,000.

If anyone needed real proof of the positive effects of social media – there it is.
