My Sister’s Keeper movie – to see or not to see?

I’m about to finish reading My Sister’s Keeper, by Jodi Picoult. Not the most uplifting of books… in fact, reading it actually makes me feel anxious but I can’t bring myself to put it down – it is, without a doubt, captivating. So much of the reason it holds the reader is because each chapter is seen from the perspective of the different characters – you are in their heads. The book has now been made into a movie and I don’t see how this key element of the book will transfer to the screen. It’s unlikely the movie will get into the heads of the characters so all we’d be left with is the heart-wrenching plot and I don’t know if I’d want to sit through two hours of this particular story. For once I’d like to leave the cinema feeling better than I did when I walked in. I’ve watched the trailer and it doesn’t match my vision of the book so will be giving it a miss. If anyone thinks I’m making too hasty a judgement, feel free to comment. To view the trailer click here.

  1. Oh, so you haven’t finished it yet? Just wait till you do – the book definitely goes out with a BANG which had me in tears as I didn’t see it coming. But guess what – they’ve apparently changed the ending in the film! I don’t know and I honestly don’t care as I probably won’t bother to see the film for the similar reasons you mentioned. I loved loved loved the book (it’s the one that got me interested in Jodi Picoult), but I don’t think the film could re-create the awesomeness of the book. If you ever do see it, then please let us know if it’s a waste of time or not. 🙂
