Description

The garlic-laden winds of change are blowing through the vineyards of Burgundy. Under threat from the increasing use of pesticides is the helix pomotia: the humble snail, the main ingredient for escargot Bourgignon.

Meanwhile, on the Canal de Bourgogne, Monsieur Pamplemousse is lecturing a group of international wine buffs on the fruits of the region, a task from which he is distracted by a Marilyn Monroe look-alike. It turns out that skulduggery among the vines will be the least of Monsieur Pamplemousse’s worries.

What The Critics Said

'A delightful cross between whimsy and French farce . . . The books have charm in abundance, sharp characterisation and gentle wit'

Crime Review

'Fans of the series should enjoy this book. A fairly continuous succession of misunderstandings and slip-ups provides much opportunity for farce and fortuitous detection... the truly detecting detective in the books is the inscrutable Pommes Frites and certainly the deep companionship and trust between the very human Pamplemousse and his all-seeing, all-knowing bloodhound is clearly established. MONSIEUR PAMPLEMOUSSE AFLOAT is full of detailed descriptions of architecture, landscape and food, as befits his lead character’s gourmet occupation. Indeed some aspects of the book form an elegy to changing times for French gastronomy and wine-growing. If you think this sounds like the kind of light-hearted, travelling gourmet crime-caper for you then you should find this particular title in the series an enjoyable read.'
