The perfect compromise…?

It struck me last week that the last four books I had read had been digital editions. They were downloaded to my iPhone either through Koboโ€™s app, a handy PDF reader that has meant Iโ€™ve read some upcoming A&B titles before theyโ€™ve gone to print, and finally through my new discovery of the Overdrive Media Console โ€“ the people who supply my library authority with e-books.

Iโ€™ve been getting increasingly lazy about putting a printed book in my bag, especially as on certain rush-hour times youโ€™re lucky if you have enough personal space on the tube to breath fresh air, let alone hold a paperback comfortably. Which is why this article in the Guardian caught my eye โ€“ the phenomena of the โ€˜flipbackโ€™ is apparently coming to our shores soon. Printed on wafer-thin paper and sporting a specially designed spine that lies open, this sounds like a commuterโ€™s dream…
