What books would you choose from the 2013 World Book Night list?
Today, the 20 books to be given away on World Book Night 2013 has been announced. 23rd April 2013 will mark the third year for this innovative project. It is a diverse range of titles ranging from A Girl with the Pearl Earring, through Casino Royale, modern favourites including The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, new fiction including The Knife of Never Letting Go and a graphic novel Judge Dredd: The Dark Judges.
This year’s selection does not include some of the more familiar titles you would expect to see and despite current trends I have noticed the absence of any vampires, wizards and witches and no shades or blue or grey…
It would seem the selection for 2013 is designed to introduce us to books we might well walk past in a bookshop without a second glance. As I look over the list again and read more detail about the books involved there are titles I would like to read I had initially discounted.
If lucky enough to be selected as a giver I am currently torn between Treasure Island or Red Dust Road – a childhood favourite or a new encounter – and I give a round of applause to World Book Night for another eclectic selection.
What titles would you choose to give from the list?
