Description

‘Every good love story has another love hiding within it.’

Brokenhearted and still mourning the loss of her husband, Heidi travels with Abbott, her obsessive-compulsive seven-year-old son, and Charlotte, her jaded sixteen-year-old niece, to the small village of Puyloubier in the south of France, to renovate her family’s crumbling stone cottage.

There, Charlotte confesses a shocking secret, and Heidi learns the truth about her mother’s ‘lost summer’ when Heidi was a child. As three generations collide with one another, with the neighbour who seems to know all of their family skeletons, and with an enigmatic Frenchman, Heidi, Charlotte, and Abbot journey through love, loss, and healing amid the vineyards, warm winds and delicious food of Provence. Can the magic of the house heal Heidi’s heart, too?

What The Critics Said

'An enchanting story about life, death, love and family. The Provence Cure for the Brokenhearted by Bridget Asher is a charming, feel-good story with appealing characters and a lovely French setting. reminded me of the novel, "Chocolat" by Joanne Harris. It's also similar to "Under the Tuscan Sun" by Frances Mayes. It's a perfect escapist read...'

Bookish Magpie

'Heartwarming and inspirational - this is a semi-romance with a difference. It's a while - almost halfway through the book - before we make it to Provence, but that doesn't matter. Asher's portrayal of a widow and her son coming to terms with the loss of their husband/father and the subsequent adventures they embark upon, starting with Heidi's sister's wedding, are second-to-none and make this book a real tear-jerker and one to stay up all night reading. Poignant and thought-provoking. I really, really loved it.'

Booksmonthly

'This is such a beautiful book, it’s one of those books that you just want to read quietly, curled up, absorbing a chapter at a time. It is poignant, achingly sad in places and joyous in others. But all the time the descriptions of the scenery transport you to Provence, and you live each day with this family. This isn’t a book you race to finish, like a wonderful French meal; you want to savour it, because you don’t want it to end. This would make a most wonderful movie! One of our favourite novels this year, we loved it! Highly Recommeded!'
