Who ever said typesetting was easy?

Monday, July 13th, 2009

I am struggling with the typesetting of one of our upcoming titles. There are so many ways to layout a recipe book and deciding on the right format is a bit of a nightmare. The margins aren’t working, some recipes fit the page so neatly, others have just one line that flows on to the next page and ends up looking ridiculous. ¶
The formatting has been one huge palaver in itself and you have to be fairly consistent with this in order for the books to translate coherently into ebooks. Aaarghh! ¶
In future I will admire and respect all cookbooks or even vaguely complicated non-fiction titles. ¶
You live and learn… ¶

I have a problem with cook books too – formatting the actual recipes! If anything has more than 5 ingredients then it’s usually a disaster!

Going Too Far, by Catherine Alliott. Susie: I rarely read 'girly' books but came across Alliott a few years ago. I've read 3 of her books thus far, and was delighted to spot this one for 30p in a charity shop. I've not opened it as yet but am hoping for another witty, grown-up, middle-class romcom, with lots of 4x4s and country houses!
