What to look forward to this autumn…

Friday, September 30th, 2011

It’s the end of September, which means one thing – summer is officially drawing to a close. We seem to have hit an incredible heat-wave in London, but inevitably the wind and rain will come. I know a lot of people get very upset as the nights draw in and the sunshine wanes, but in all honesty I’m sort of looking forward to it. Okay, so the constant gloom might be a little depressing, but there are upsides! For example…

1. It’s harvest season! Imagine what amazing autumn soups you could make out of these vegetables…

2. Scarves, boots, woolly jumpers – all liberated from the wardrobe! Comfy clothing begins!

3. Autumn TV. There is nothing on in the summer. Downton Abbey‘s already back, we have a new channel 4 comedy in Fresh Meat, and I’m betting there are some good BBC programmes to come…

4. And best of all, of course, wet and windy weather provides an ideal excuse to curl up on the sofa with a good book. Which is why in next week’s blog I plan to recommend some of my favourite reads for autumn – books with a bit of mystery, suspense and Gothicism to match the oncoming gloomy weather…

Going Too Far, by Catherine Alliott. Susie: I rarely read 'girly' books but came across Alliott a few years ago. I've read 3 of her books thus far, and was delighted to spot this one for 30p in a charity shop. I've not opened it as yet but am hoping for another witty, grown-up, middle-class romcom, with lots of 4x4s and country houses!
