Wednesday Cover Story: Revamping the Republic

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

The acclaimed Republic trilogy, by Jack Ludlow – including The Pillars of Rome (a Top Ten bestseller), The Sword of Revenge and The Gods of War – has been a great success for us. Now the Romans are getting a revamp and so far, the first two books in the trilogy have been released with the new look.

THE NEW EDITIONS:

I have to say I love these new editions. Having said that I liked the old covers too…but these, I find have much more…well, more “Oomph” (for lack of a better way of putting it). I do have a penchant for simple emblematic covers – but even so, I think it’s a much slicker look, simple but strong – they stand out more. I want them on my shelf – face-out. I want to collect them (indeed it’s a pity there are only three in the set) and in fact, I’m dying to see how the third will round things up.

But, what do you think? Do you think are they better than the old versions?

Going Too Far, by Catherine Alliott. Susie: I rarely read 'girly' books but came across Alliott a few years ago. I've read 3 of her books thus far, and was delighted to spot this one for 30p in a charity shop. I've not opened it as yet but am hoping for another witty, grown-up, middle-class romcom, with lots of 4x4s and country houses!
