The post-Easter, pre-Book Fair week

Friday, April 17th, 2009

It’s been quite a busy week at work so far, which has come as a shock to the system after such a quiet week before Easter! Not only are we all busily catching up with the work that inevitably mounts up during the bank holidays (my days have included editing Priscilla Masters’ fantastic new crime fiction novel Grave Stones, taking in proofreading corrections to a couple of titles I’ve typeset and looking over some submissions that have come in for our women’s fiction list) but preparations are also well underway for next week’s London Book Fair. It’s always such an exciting prospect – like any girl, I love to have a good nosey around to see what everyone’s up to, and what better chance than when they are all under one vast roof? It’s fascinating to take a tour around the other publishers’ stands – seeing what titles they have in the pipeline and what their cover designs are looking like – and, of course, it’s a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet new agents. So whilst I’m busy at my desk this week, I’m already looking forward to the next!

I may very well get a chance to stop by and say “hello”! Am thinking Tuesday as my CEO will be abroad so I can slip away.

Hi Liz,
I’ll only be there Monday afternoon myself – let me know if you end up popping by then instead of Tuesday. Otherwise I’ll see you at one of Rachel Caine’s upcoming signing – will keep you posted re: a london date.

*yay* Rachel Caine, Rachel Caine…crud, haven’t read all of her books yet…runs away to read…

Going Too Far, by Catherine Alliott. Susie: I rarely read 'girly' books but came across Alliott a few years ago. I've read 3 of her books thus far, and was delighted to spot this one for 30p in a charity shop. I've not opened it as yet but am hoping for another witty, grown-up, middle-class romcom, with lots of 4x4s and country houses!
