The A v B format paperback question…

Friday, March 13th, 2009

I grew up with small format paperbacks that neatly fit in your pocket and that’s what everyone took on their annual holiday.  Those were the days … Then along came the large Penguin paperbacks, the King Penguins, which were so gorgeous and covetable.  Do you remember Perfume first time round?  It was absolutely stunning.  So paperbacks of a more lit’ry bent started getting bigger and for many years the B format has been the size to be seen with.  But now, the traditional ‘airport’ reads are beginning to gravitate to that size too … what is happening?  Don’t get me wrong, as a consumer I love B format paperbacks, but as a Publisher, I’m confused about what size I should make our books.  HELP!

Victoria Connelly Says:

You make a very good point because it IS confusing! I prefer the B format. I find the spines on the A too tight. And I can’t stand those huge trade paperbacks! So bulky!
