Let’s talk about Sherlock

A while ago people needed to talk about Kevin, and now they are talking about Sherlock Holmes. The release of the new official Holmes novel, The House of Silk, by Anthony Horowitz, has sparked this new hype, but Holmes has always been a source of interest and inspiration. A great deal of writers have been influenced by the classic character, some in subtle ways and others in very obvious ways, as in the case of A&B author Laurie R King, who writes the bestselling Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes series.

And now a few of these authors are paying tribute to Holmes with a new book A Study in Sherlock (Titan Books), co-edited by Laurie R King and including Holmesian-inspired short stories by an impressive list of crime writers, including Lee Child, Neil Gaiman, Michael Connelly and another of our A&B authors, Jacqueline Winspear. Hoping to offer a new insight into Holmes, let’s call the book a the literary way of taking a magnifying glass out, à la Sherlock, to study something in more detail.

I spotted this YouTube video featuring some of the authors in the book and you can see Laurie (talking) sitting next to Jacqueline. Now unless my hearing or PC is somewhat impaired, you may actually need to press your ear against your computer speakers in order to understand what’s being said. But then again, maybe it’s all part of the thrill of detection…
