Interactive e-books!

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Interactive e-books here we come! Released just a week ago, the Alice app for iPad by Atomic Antelope has caused quite a stir.  See this sneak preview on YouTube:

Using the old artwork from Lewis Carroll’s original, it’s a very attractive looking application. Shaking the screen allows you to interact with the illustrations; my personal favourite is being able to throw tarts at the Queen of Hearts!

Purists of course are beside themselves (how this will erode the reading experience etc), but I have to admit, I think it looks quite fun…An interactive illustrated book is more like a game than a read in any case. Just because I read pop-up books as a child, doesn’t mean I’ve read nothing else since.

I’m very keen to see what Atomic Antelope will produce next…

Going Too Far, by Catherine Alliott. Susie: I rarely read 'girly' books but came across Alliott a few years ago. I've read 3 of her books thus far, and was delighted to spot this one for 30p in a charity shop. I've not opened it as yet but am hoping for another witty, grown-up, middle-class romcom, with lots of 4x4s and country houses!
