IKEA… behind Scandinavian crime writers’ success?

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

In the Metro this morning there was an article on Scandinavian crime writers noting how interest in this particular area of crime is far from losing momentum.

But did you know that there is a direct correlation between the increasing popularity of Scandinavian crime and DIY giant IKEA? According to author Matt Benyon Rees (whose books remind me of our own John Kilgallon) this is most certainly the case and it all has to do with having attractive and comfortable writing rooms. Read more on his theory here…
Creative souls writers may be but this does not mean their work spaces should be mayhem. So, if you’re looking for storage for your research material, foreign editions, contracts, rewrites and notes on new ideas, look no further than the bookcase/storage department in IKEA.

It obviously works for Jo Nesbo and Henning Mankel

Going Too Far, by Catherine Alliott. Susie: I rarely read 'girly' books but came across Alliott a few years ago. I've read 3 of her books thus far, and was delighted to spot this one for 30p in a charity shop. I've not opened it as yet but am hoping for another witty, grown-up, middle-class romcom, with lots of 4x4s and country houses!
