What’s the collective noun for a group of romantic novelists? That’s the question that was being asked at the annual conference of the Romantic Novelists’ Association in Penrith at the weekend. Suggestions included ‘a passion’, ‘a chatter’ and ‘a heartbeat’.
There were over 120 writers and the atmosphere was buzzing. Writing is a lonely job and, when we get a chance to socialize, we’re all keen to make up for lost time with eating, drinking and gossip aplenty!
I’ve been attending RNA conferences for many years now but this was my first as a published author in the UK and it was lovely to see so many of my writer friends with their copies of Molly’s Millions, and I was very happy to sign them all.
A highlight for me was taking part in the ‘Love in the Library’ talk in Penrith where a group of us - including Katie Fforde, Freda Lightfoot and Veronica Henry - told eager readers all our writing secrets.
As always, the weekend rushed by and now it’s back to the desk until I can escape again next year.

Was sorry to miss the conference this year, but thanks for the photos. I’m sure it was great fun.

Thanks for telling us about the conference, Victoria, and for sending us your photos. So glad to hear you all had a good time. P.S. My vote would go for ‘a chatter’ - all the romance writers I’ve ever met seem to be very adept at that!

I like to think of everyone as a soufflé of romantic novelists. Pumped up and bursting with lusciousness! I’m applying for my visa to leave Wales for England and look forward to attend RNA 2010 at Greenwich. Thanks, Victoria.
