Flashback to a favourite read

Today I had a wonderful flashback. My Favourite Books blogger posted a lovely review of one of our titles, The Secret History of the Pink Carnation, by Lauren Willig. There, at the end of the review she likens the book to Anthony Hope’s The Prisoner of Zenda - and there it was, the sudden rehashing of a long-forgotten memory.
The Prisoner of Zenda! Oh how I adored that book! And the sequel - Rupert something. Wait, just Amazon-ed it: Rupert of Hentzau! I don’t know how I could have forgotten about these novels. I remember I was glued to the pages.
I’ve now scouted all the editions on Amazon to find the ones I had but don’t recognise any of the covers (all of which are rather subdued). Mine had striking, brightly coloured covers - a landscape on the bottom with The Prisoner of Zenda’s face or profile large above it (something like that). I think Rupert of Hentzau had the two profiles of the men facing eachother. Anyone remember exactly? It’s all starting to come back to me…
Now I feel compelled to find and reread them… or buy the new edition (pictured) from Penguin. But if anyone can find a photo of those old editions, let me know so I can continue reminiscing.

I saw that very same cover in Waterstones recently! I remember reading it when I was much younger and loved it - I even love the movie they made of it.
Hope you find a copy and that your re-read of it is as nostalgic as it deserves!
