Be a Good SAMaritan

Friday, February 6th, 2015

Veering off books and all things cultural for one moment – today I came across a brilliant new app that will potentially save thousands of lives. Despite my general dislike of our over-reliance on our smartphones, this new app, called GoodSAM, has proved that technology can save the day. The app lets you flag up any emergency you witness via your phone and then alerts  the 2000 off-duty London medics who’ve signed up and gives them details of the quickest route to the incident.

As someone who would be incredibly unprepared in an emergency, it sounds like a genius idea. The idea has taken off so well that in central London you’re never more than 200 metres away from a SAM.  If you’re going to do one thing with that fancy new smartphone, download this app and become part of the services that saves lives.

    Mad Girl by Bryony Gordon

Ailsa: I challenged myself to read more non-fiction this year. Bryony writes about her lifelong struggle with OCD, and I'm finding the book really interesting.
