A little gem for cinema-goers

Monday, February 1st, 2010

I’ve been watching more films recently – mostly thanks to my Lovefilm account. But occasionally there’s a film you just have to see on the big screen and this cinema in Notting Hill is my secret love.

The Coronet is an old Victorian theatre, with gorgeous old-school décor in scarlet and gold and feels like a cinema for grown-ups, not for screaming kids. You can buy your wine or beer from the bar downstairs and take it into the cinema with you - very civilized.

The cinema became well-known after Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts filmed a scene from Notting Hill here but luckily with so many other cinemas around it’s not too overrun.

And the price? £7 all week except for Tuesdays when it’s a bargain at £3.50. Unbelievably reasonable for London. I think Invictus will be on my agenda next week…
