A certain je ne sais quoi in a bookshop

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Last Thursday I was lucky enough to be invited to a celebration of the opening of Belgravia Books, the chic new retail arm of fellow indie publisher Gallic Books. Considering that on my journey across London I’d been reading about Sir Philip Green’s plans to close 260 stores, it was particularly pleasant to be part of a positive bookselling event.

So, if you’re in the neighbourhood, do pop in (there’s a special Christmas shopping event planned) and check out the beautifully proportioned space, the rag-rug tiger skin in the children’s corner and, if the day is nice, the trés parisien seating en dehors.

Going Too Far, by Catherine Alliott. Susie: I rarely read 'girly' books but came across Alliott a few years ago. I've read 3 of her books thus far, and was delighted to spot this one for 30p in a charity shop. I've not opened it as yet but am hoping for another witty, grown-up, middle-class romcom, with lots of 4x4s and country houses!
