Bodyguard and ex-Special Forces soldier, Charlie Fox is recovering from being shot on her previous assignment and is itching to go back to work. It is while she is receiving the last of her physio that Charlie's life in the slow lane picks up a gear. She sees her austere father fending off accusations of murder from reporters on the local news. What is worse, Mr. Foxcroft doesn't seem to be denying the accusations. Charlie knows that something is wrong and vows to get to the bottom of it.
What she discovers is startling and propels Charlie head first into the firing line - again. Her father is being set up, made to look like a drunken lecher as well as a murderer. Someone is ruining his credibility, but for what end? Charlie realises she has to investigate; the only trouble is it means spending quality time with her parents.
'Get set for a roller-coaster ride... Sharp, a Barry Award finalist for her two previous Fox books, captures readers on the first page and doesn’t let go. Charlie is something of a reincarnation of Modesty Blaise, showing the same determination and purpose. Highly recommended.'Library Journal
'Zoë Sharp writes some of the best thrillers around...This is compulsive reading just for the examinations of the human condition and family affiliations alone. But there is so much more to this complex novel, filled with blackmail, government treachery in the name of national security, and murder. The tension level remains high from page one through to the violent and bloody conclusion...[An] exceptional novel.'Mystery News
'The book is another fast-paced, well-plotted and winning entry in the series, which just keeps getting better. Recommended.'Gloria Feit, Mystery Women
'Sharp expertly captures the frenetic energy of New York without sacrificing her trademark British wit. Charlie is as tough as she is damaged, and readers will kill for the next installment.'Publishers Weekly
'Sharp could be the poster child for getting action thrillers right... She has a strong, sure and steady writing style and handles action scenes in a realistic and exciting manner.'Deadly Pleasures
'Guns, bad guys, conspiracies, unelective surgery, and the occasional dirty bit: what more could you want from a top-notch thriller? Excellent book…It cost me three very, very late nights’Stuart MacBride (author of 'Broken Skin')
